For the sixth straight day Tuesday, Tulane's practice was affected by rain. Heavier showers shortened the morning session by one period and it rained on and off throughout the afternoon session.
"Unbelievable," Tualne Coach Toledo said. "I thought about saying 'Let's go two on Monday,' but we took a chance and lucked out.

LSU may have lost a quarterback, but the Tigers gained a catcher.
Newman two-sport standout Wes Luquette has verbally committed to play baseball for LSU and Coach Paul Mainieri in 2010 and is eligible to sign during the early Nov. 12-19 signing period.

Tulane's baseball recruiting class suffered a major body blow Friday when three players signed professional contracts just before the deadline for Major League teams to sign high school players they drafted in June.
T.J. House, a left handed pitcher from Picayune, Miss., who was the 16th-round pick of the Cleveland Indians signed for $1 million and J.P. Ramirez, an outfielder from New Braunfels, Texas, received a similar amount from the Washington Nationals who had taken him in the 16th round.

Blue chip offensive lineman Joey Fontana of Brother Martin spent much of this week narrowing his list of potential college football destinations to three.
On Friday night he huddled with his parents Dwight and Melanie at their Mandeville home, held one final discussion on the pros and cons of each school and then pulled the trigger on a verbal commitment to Southern Methodist. Tulane and Stanford were Fontana's other finalists.
Tulane scrimmage site changed

Because of the threat of thunderstorms, Tulane's scrmmage on Saturday afternoon has been moved to the Saints' indoor facility.
Because of the change, the scrimmage will be closed to the public.
The Green Wave's Aug. 24 scrimmage at the Westfeldt Practice Facility will be open to the public unless it too, has to be moved.

Kickoff for Tulane's season opener at Alabama has finally been set.
The game in Tuscaloosa, Ala., will have a 6 p.m. start at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
It will air on pay-per-view in Alabama view via the Crimson Tide Sports Network. The game probably will not be available locally except through DirectTV or Dish Network.
Tulane to scrimage Saturday

The emphasis will be getting a look at younger players and the kicking game in Tulane's Saturday afternoon scrimmage, the first of the preseason for the Green Wave.
"We really want to evaluate our freshmen, especially those who might be on special teams." Tulane Coach Bob Toledo said after Friday's lone practice session. "And we need to work on kicking game."
2009 Tulane football game vs. Alabama off

Alabama won't be playing Tulane in the Superdome next year.
Instead, the Green Wave likely will be getting a home game against Brigham Young plus four future guaranteed ESPN appearances as part of a deal with the network to allow the Crimson Tide open its 2009 season against Virginia Tech in Atlanta.

There was concern about the condition of Tulane junior defensive end Adam Kwentua, who missed summer workouts dealing with a bulging disc in his lower back.
But on Friday, the first day of practice for the Green Wave, Kwentua was running with the first unit, albeit a little out of condition.
