Northshore High
Upper classmen may have begun to notice a few changes being made around Northshore High School. The changes were verified at class meetings, which were held Aug. 8 for freshmen and sophomores, and on Aug. 11 for juniors and seniors.

Northshore Reading Council members attend workshop
Five members of the Northshore Reading Council recently attended the Louisiana Reading Association Leadership Workshop held in Monroe. New officers were installed, winners of awards were recognized and workshops held at the meeting. Attending were: Michelle Cardaronella, past president of the LRA; Deanna Cantin, past president of NRC; Jan Harrison, chair of LRA Speaker's Bureau; Esther Jordan, president of NRC and Mary Reneau, treasurer of NRC.

Pearl River High School's Southern Sweethearts dance team held a summer camp at the school. The Southern Sweethearts have practice twice a week and have been preparing for performances dates, including school pep rallies. The sponsors are Andree Bonnaffons and Mike Winkler.

Pope John Paul II
PJP varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders and the Jazz Cats dance team members excelled at their summer camps. In the beginning of June, the varsity cheerleaders went to Destin, Fla., for cheer camp. They returned with a Safety Award and a Godlike Award.

Among some of the changes at Slidell High School this year include cutting down on the number of school lunches. Instead of the usual three lunches, this year there are two. In previous years, B lunch split students in fourth hour into two parts, making it difficult for teachers to give lessons and tests. So now with two lunches, the students' fourth hour is never divided.

Creekside Junior High School's Future Farmers of America chapter was chosen as the Outstanding Junior High FFA Chapter in the state of Louisiana for the 2007-08 school year during the recent State FFA convention held in Monroe. The Creekside FFA also was selected as one of only seven Gold Emblem Chapters in the state, which qualifies the chapter to compete at the national convention in Indianapolis in October.
