    Mandeville resident Paulette Renaudin has watched the Magnificat Ministry to Catholic Women grow from its first breakfast in Metairie 28 years ago to include 72 chapters all over the United States and the world.

    As students mill about Fontainebleau's squeaky-clean campus, the chatter turns from summer gossip to the improvements made to their campus - courtesy of Fontainebleau's administration, a few staff members, JROTC members and leaders, members of the 2007-08 junior/senior landscaping and horticulture classes and the FFA officers.

    While summer gave Mandeville High students much needed rest from the rigors of academics, it brought awards and accolades to the faculty and administration. Mandeville High School teacher Deborah Tonguis was recently named the 2009 Louisiana State Teacher of the Year. Tonguis has 27 years of teaching experience and teaches world geography and psychology. All of Mandeville High is very proud of her accomplishments!

    The grand finale of the Summer Show was a closing reception hosted by the St. Tammany Art Association on Aug. 9. The Summer Show was the 43rd juried artists' exhibition, and the closing reception is an event unique to that show.

    Art group a portrait of success
    Since forming earlier this year, Art for Madisonville has sparked an interest among locals who joined the art organization, which promotes the development of art and artists in the Madisonville area and provides them with opportunities to sell directly to the public in a cost-effective venue.

    Last August, a small group of men and women met to organize a new club in the area. The name decided upon for the fledgling organization was "Singles For Fun and Fellowship."

    In the 22 years I spent swimming, there have been a blur of meets. A Championships, B Championships, and C Championships. High school state championships and Big 10 Championships. Many, many invitationals and summer club contests that seemed more heated than a Michael Phelps-Ian Thorpe race.

    Tchefuncte Middle gets new assistant principal
    When Tchefuncte Middle School opened its doors to students on Aug. 8, one of the new faces on campus was Assistant Principal Chris Oufnac. A former parishwide assistant principal, Oufnac was appointed to the new position this spring. He assisted with the administrative closing of the school for several weeks in the summer and attended the administrative conference several weeks prior to the opening of school.
